EXPANSION ELEMENTS

Completing its production program within the field of pipe elements, ïn 1994, "LUK" mastered production of expansion elements and it can be rightfully said that, for the time being, we are the only producer of expansion elements in the teritorry of FR of Yugoslavia.

This statement is backed up by unbeatable arguments as "LUK", according to its own procedure, produces corrugated accordian element that is the most important element of expansion joints.

In the initial stage of the production of expansion elements, because it was necessary to substitute import, expansion elements were produced in accordance with client's documentation, and we now reached the stage when it can be stated with reason that there are expansion joints of "LUK" type.

Basic arguments that back up this statement are:

  • Systematised and standardized accordia and other elements of expansion joints
  • Complete tools and equipment for manufacture of expansion joints
  • Systematised documentation, know-how and experience in the field of production and application of expansion elements.

Furtner development in the production of expansion elements shall be made in two directions:

  1. Extending of field of application of corrugated accordian
  2. Improvement of product quality through required improvements in design and technology.

 

 

PRODUCTION OF EXPANSION ELEMENT

Accordian expansion joints are made from pipes manufactured from sheet metal whereby the pipe wall is of single or multilayer construction.

Sheets are longitudinally joined by a high quality weld.

Corrugated accordians are shaped by a cold forming process in accordance with our own technology resulting in an accordian element that has good mechanical properties and requested life span.

 

TESTING

After fabrication and assembly, the expansion elements are tested by non-destructive test methods the objective of which is to determine:

  • geometry (compliance with technical documentation)
  • strength
  • tightness
 

GEOMETRY

Control of the geometry is performed by measuring the following:

  • diameter
  • free length
  • installation length
  • pitch

All measures must be within the limits of the permitted tolerances.

 

 

TIGHTNESS TEST

The following methods are used:

  • penetrant test
  • radiographic test
  • inert gas test

TESTING OF STRENGTH

Testing is performed by cold water at test pressure of p1 = 1,5 pr (pr = operating pressure)

Cold test is considered successful if during the test there has not been any leakage, wetting, or change of form.

 

DOCUMENTATION

With each expansion element the following documentation is delivered containing:

  1. Quality Certificate
  2. Measuring sketch covering the expansion element
  3. Test reports
  4. Conclusion

For proper functioning of an installed expansion element, correct selection of the expansion element is necessary and, therefore, our specialists are at your disposal to that respect.
